This Isn't Depression, It's Data

This isn’t failure. This is feedback. I’m not broken. I’m just full.

I’ve been living deep inside my trauma. Not beside it, not dancing around it, not rising above it. Inside it.

Like I’ve taken up residence in the ribcage of my own pain and tried to decorate it with self-help books and well-meaning affirmations. Like I’ve been trying to make a home in a house that keeps burning down.

And the truth? I have nothing left to give to anything new. Even the things I love. Even the things I prayed for when I had nothing. Even the things that feel like they were written for me in the stars.

It’s not because I don’t care. It’s because I do care, and that caring has extracted every last drop of my lifeforce.

I’m on autopilot now. On the outside, it looks like boredom. Irritability. Isolation. Quick to anger. Quicker to quit. But on the inside, it feels like trying to keep a candle lit in a hurricane. It feels like surviving on fumes in a world that demands fire.

I am not unloved. But I am… unseen in the ways that would soften this ache. The world around me pulls from a well that hasn’t been replenished in many seasons. I’ve mastered the art of pouring from empty. What I need now is a silence that holds me, a stillness that doesn’t ask for more.

Too much has happened. Too much pain in the name of healing. Too much “growth” that felt more like loss. Too much of my identity has been shaped by surviving what I never deserved to endure.

And I wonder…

Is there a mindset that can change the now? Or is the now the only teacher left?

Because I know what all the self-help books say. I know how to write the affirmation. I know how to talk to my inner child. I know how to regulate, to breathe, to pause.

But what do you do when the breath won’t come? When the regulation tools feel like toys in a war zone? When you’ve used up all your video game “health” and the only way to keep playing is to start over… but you can’t.

Because this isn’t a game. This is life. And we don’t get a reset button. We get mornings. We get sips of tea and seconds of quiet. We get choices. Sometimes they don’t feel like enough. Sometimes they feel like torture. But they’re still ours.

I keep wondering if the madness around me is the lesson. If the discomfort I’m trying to escape is the very thing that’s trying to wake me up. Would leaving be a betrayal of my growth — or the boldest act of listening I’ve ever done?

What if I stayed? What if I figured out how to pour back into myself while living in a house built on my own triggers? What if the ache doesn’t mean leave — what if it means alchemize?

I do not feel happy. Not even close. And worse than that: I feel like I should be. That’s the kicker, isn’t it? The shame storm that comes when you’re doing “everything right” and still feel like a shadow of yourself.

It’s not just one thing. It’s the whole damn pile. Traumas, hormones, family, programming, social media, old stories, unpaid bills, unspoken grief, invisible labor, broken trust, broken mirrors, broken promises to yourself.

And still… we get up.

The past keeps grabbing my sleeve. Through songs, through dreams, through flashes of memory that tighten my chest and steal my present. And if it’s not my mind, it’s my body. My heart that beats like it remembers something I haven’t told anyone. My shoulders that curl in like they’re still ducking from a blow.

But here’s the thing: This isn’t depression, it’s data.

This is my body saying enough. This is my soul saying pause. This is my nervous system saying,

“I won’t carry your whole world anymore until you put some of it down.”

This is not failure. This is feedback.

And if I stop fighting it… if I stop trying to “feel better” and start listening… maybe I’ll hear the truth I came here to remember:

I’m not broken. I’m just full.
And maybe that’s the most honest place to begin again.
