The First Thing I Ever Made That Set Me Free
Rebellion in a glass jar.

A couple of years ago, I started making toothpowder for my household.
I started because I was tired of bleeding gums and tired of trusting labels stamped with lies about the ingredients
Somewhere in my doomscrolling — between rage and restlessness — recipes began to flood my screen.
Toothpowder.
Serums.
Tinctures.
Escape routes disguised as everyday rituals.
I didn’t dive in headfirst.
I watched. I read. I researched.
For months.
Until one day, I stood in my kitchen, and made the first thing that made me feel free.
Toothpowder.
It sounds insignificant.
But it was the first time I realized:
We’ve been sold poison disguised as care.
That those shiny plastic tubes on the shelves — the ones promising cavity defense and whitening — were quietly delivering fluoride, SLS, microplastics, and chemical sweeteners…
into our bloodstream.
Into our children.
Into our ritual of brushing away the day.
So I made my own.
A blend of bentonite and kaolin clay — to detoxify and remineralize, pulling heavy metals and restoring the natural pH of the mouth.
A touch of baking soda — gentle enough to polish, strong enough to shift the terrain.
And then came the essential oils.
Clove for its natural analgesic power, a healer of gums, a warrior against decay.
Cinnamon for its warmth, its bite, its ancient fire — an antimicrobial queen wrapped in spice.
Peppermint for the clean sting that reminds me: this is holy work.
It’s been two years.
No more bleeding gums.
No more pain from cavities (because they no longer exist).
My dentist was baffled.
But I know the truth.
Not everyone in my house uses it.
I still buy Dr. Bronner’s for the kids.
But I know they’ll come back to it.
Back to this moment.
Back to mom’s rebellion in a glass jar.
Because this wasn’t just about dental health.
This was my gateway.
The start of making my own face serums, sunblocks, tinctures,
tallow balms, laundry wash, cleaners, everything.
I didn’t just switch products.
I switched realities.

TOOTHPOWDER RECIPE
Ingredients:
2 tbs baking soda
4 tbs bentonite clay
3 tbs kaolin clay
8 drops peppermint essential oil
8 drops cinnamon essential oil
8 drops clove essential oil
Mix all ingredients.
Never use metal with bentonite clay. It neutralizes the clay’s natural electric charge and strips it of its healing power.
How to use:
• Wet a soft-bristle brush
• Dip into the powder (no metal spoons — bentonite clay loses its charge)
• Don’t get water in the main jar (moisture breeds bacteria)
• Spit into a trash dish — not the sink (clay is used as cement)
• Brush as normal
• Swish, spit, and smile like someone who just reclaimed their future
If you’d love to make this on your own, but don’t have the time or energy, I can make it for you.
