Sometimes the Kindest Thing I Can Do Is Disappear

On ghosting, growth, and the painful beauty of distance.

There's a quiet kind of leaving that doesn't come with slammed doors or final words. It's the kind where I slip out of someone's orbit without fanfare... no fight, no warning, just space where my presence used to be.

What people call itGhosting.
What I call itSurvival.

I've learned that I can't always stay, even for the people I love most. Not because I don't care, but because if I ignore the part of me that's asking -- sometimes begging -- for space, I become someone neither of us wants to meet.

Still, I'd be lying if I said the guilt doesn't come. That I don't hear the echo of their confusion, the way my absence lands in their body. That I don't imagine the silent tally they might be keeping... of all the ways they wish I had tried harder, stayed longer, shown up more.

The truth is, I often wish the same.

But when I'm in self-preservation mode, there are moments I can't bridge the gap. Moments where the best I can do is take my hands off the rope. If we're both in that state -- both fighting our own battles -- then maybe letting go is the only mercy we can offer each other.

It's not absence out of malice. It's absence because I still believe in the possibility of return.

Sometimes separation is the thing that allows growth to happen at all, whether it leads us back to one another or leaves us standing stronger on opposite shores.

I've chosen to believe that what is meant to be will be... even through the long pause, the unanswered text, the silence that feels heavier than words.

The Most Beautiful Kind of Selfish

Self-preservation might look selfish from the outside. And maybe it is. But I think it's the most beautiful kind of selfish there is. The kind that stops the bleeding before it becomes fatal. The kind that honors both of us enough to step away before I can't recognize myself anymore.

This is how I move through the world. Guided by the lesson in every closed door, every lost thought, every unanswered call.

Changing the Language

Yes, trauma brought me here. But the word itself has started to feel counterproductive. My story is not just trauma. It's the transformation that came after.

When I look back at my life, I don't just see the wreckage. I see the art in the wreckage. The moments of beauty tangled up in pain. The alchemy that turned the negative into something I could stand in -- strong, kind, compassionate, confident.

If I am to be a true survivor, a warrior, I have to change the language of my past. It was not just trauma... it was the gift that shaped me.

So if I let go of you, know this: it's never because I stopped caring. It's because I needed to remember how to care for myself first. And if the universe chooses, maybe I'll find my way back to you.

Balance

Hold a point of steadiness and moderation. Find a point of equilibrium and peaceful coexistence in the midst of change.

P.S.

If you've ever felt my silence, know that it held you just as much as my presence did... just from farther away.
